DRAMA-PHOTO WORKSHOP WITH CHILDREN
Project "Kumbaracı Yokuşu Çocukları "
Project and Trainer: Filiz Işık
Although the children living in the Galata Tower, Tophane and Boğazkesen triangle are involved in art and history, they are still strangers to them. Although surrounded by historical artifacts, many of them did not knock on their doors and did not visit museums. They commute between home and school. "Children of Kumbaracı Yokusu" project mainly includes the subject of history and photography. This is one of the places that best expresses the multicultural structure of Turkey, which includes a small panorama of Turkey... It is a very special area with its mosques, churches, fountains, tombstones, birdhouses, doors, windows and architecture. While working with children, it is aimed to tell them about the change in social life for centuries, and also to give information about certain art movements, to recognize and protect the place where they live, to understand that place and to produce. Photographing is taught by using drama techniques as a working style.
Street by street will be visited, spoken, works will be done where the works. The learning by living technique will form the way of working. Artist workshops in the region will be visited, and students will be encouraged to develop themselves in every aspect. With the support of Beyoğlu Municipality, classes are held in the Tophane District Mansion allocated for our students. Twenty students aged between twelve and ten continue to study. The workshop, which started in November 2007, will end in May 2008. As a result of this period, an exhibition consisting of photographs taken by children will be opened on Kumbaracı Yokuşu. As a result of the workshop, children will perceive life in a different way; They will be able to express themselves as individuals who not only watch but participate and transform against life.
This project is carried out with the Main Sponsorship of CAMERAMUSEUM (NEKSAV- HİLMİ NAKİPOĞLU) with the Space and Logistics Support of BEYOĞLU MUNICIPALITY.
